Softball gets 10-1 win over Winthrop

Dixie State softball stayed hot on Sunday afternoon with a 10-1 win over Winthrop. 

How it happened:  The Eagles put up a single run in the top of the first inning. That was the only run they would get for the rest of the game. 

In the bottom of the second inning, Laura Lockard started things off with a single. Lauren Almeida followed that up with a single for an RBI. Later, with the bases loaded, Madison Duryea singled through the left side for another run. Carly Eldredge drew a walk for another run. With bases still loaded Marissa Rubio singled to left field for three RBIs. 

As the second inning concluded, Dixie State had a 7-1 lead. The third inning went scoreless for both teams. In the bottom of the third, DSU found an offensive spark once again. 

Eldredge started things off with a double and was able to score off a wild pitch. Later with two runners on base, one in scoring position, Almeida singled for an RBI. Hannah Hughbanks singled up the middle for an RBI before the third inning ended. Dixie State had a 10-1 lead. 

Trailblazers defense stepped up and finished out the game ending it early in five innings. 

At the plate: Dixie State ended the game with nine hits from 22 at bats. DSU drew three walks and had eight strikeouts. 

Almeida went 2-3 from the plate, with one run and two RBIs. Hughbanks also went 2-3 from the plate with one run, one RBI and one double 

In the field: The Trailblazers ended the game with 15 putouts and four assists. Clements led with six putouts while Eldredge had two assists. 

In the circle: Kate Dolinski pitched all five innings for Dixie. She gave up just one run, five hits and three walks. Dolinski came away with five strikeouts and now has a 2-2 record on the season. 

Notes to Know: Dixie State now has a 4-8 record overall on the season and are on a two game winning streak.  

Up Next: The Dixie State will host Southern Utah, Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. before hitting the road to take on UC Davis and Sacramento State.
