Utah Tech men's soccer finished out the 2022 season with a 1-0 win over UNLV.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game started off with early shots from both sides. The Trailblazers got the first shot of the day off when
Anthony Godinez hit a shot high at the center into Andrew Sway's hands. UNLV answered with a shot of their own just a minute later.
Aby Gomez had a great look off a set piece in the 18th minute. His powerful freekick went into the center of the frame and forced Sway into another save.
In the 42nd minute Taylor Rogers hit a ball off a ricochet that nearly beat Sway, but again he came up with a big save to keep the game level at 0-0. Additionally, Dunes Nielsen had a shot right before the halftime break that went just wide.
The match was all level at the half.
Out of the halftime break the match intensified with end-to-end action. The Trailblazers were able to find shots from Raul Ruiz and Anthony Godinez but their attempts went wanting.
Larsen Rogers found the opening goal in the 71st minute. After catching UNLV lacking in the transition play,
Kyle Walbruch laid the ball off to an onrushing Rogers who dribbled through and took a shot from just inside the 18-yard box to put the Trailblazers ahead.
In the 79th minute Jacob Zimmerman made a massive save on the line to protect the 1-0 lead.

The Trailblazers were able to hold strong in a tense final 10 minutes of the match to preserve the 1-0 lead.Â
STAT BREAKDOWN:Â The Trailblazers had 15th shots with five on goal.
Larsen Rogers scored the lone goal.Â
Jacob Zimmerman started and played the full 90 minutes in goal, making five saves and earning the shutout on the night.Â
UNLV ended the match with 9 shots, having five on goal. The team was shown one yellow card, and their goalkeeper made four save.
NOTES TO KNOW: The Trailblazers finished the year with a 4-12-2 record on the season and have a 2-5-2 record in WAC play. The Blazers have scored eight goals this season and have two shutouts.
Only one Trailblazer was shown yellow in this match, Anthony Godinez in the 53rd minute.
