Utah Tech volleyball fell in three sets to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon.
What head coach Camilla Hafoka said: "Thank you to our seniors for being great leaders and helping change the culture of this program. They helped us to finish out this season strong."
How it happened: The first set started with teams matching points. Through the first 15 points, there was never more than a two-point spread between the two teams. At the end of the first set, though, the Lumberjacks went on an 11-2 run to end the set, and the Trailblazers fell 25-18 after the first set.
The second set started close between the two sides, but the Lumberjacks were able to go on a run and were up 14-8 before the Trailblazers were able to bring it back within two points. Eventually, the Trailblazers went on a 4-0 run with two
Taela Laufiso kills to draw the set level to 24-24. Despite forcing extra points, the Trailblazers fell 26-24 in the second set.
The Trailblazers started the third set up 4-2, but the Lumberjacks were able to pull the score back level at 4-4. Then SFA went on a 6-2 run to find a comfortable lead, and despite the Trailblazers' best efforts, they could not stage a comeback. SFA would take home a three-set win in the final regular season match of the 2022 season.
Killin' it: Utah Tech was led by Nihipali, who put up 13 kills from 44 attacks with six errors for a .159 percentage.
UT had 31 kills from 110 attacks with 15 errors for a .145 on the night.
Diggin' it: Utah Tech was led by
Mykenna Nelson, who recorded 17 digs in the match. Additionally,
Taela Laufiso had the second-highest digs on the team with 11, paired with 18 assists for a double-double on the night.
In total, Utah Tech had 47 total digs.
Blockin' it: Utah Tech was led by
Sunny Brown and
Chayse Daugherty, who recorded four total blocks each. In total, UT had 13 team blocks.
Notes to know: Utah Tech is now 11-12 overall on the season and 5-9 in WAC action.
