Utah Tech picks up three set victory over ACU

Utah Tech volleyball got back on track with a three set win over Abilene Christian. 
 
How it happened: Utah Tech started out with a 5-2 lead over ACU and maintained the lead throughout the entire set. Later, UT put together an 8-2 run to take a 20-16 lead. Kate Hardy had a kill and ace to bring the Trailblazers within two points of the first set victory. A kill by Chayse Daugherty and an ACU error finished the set out for Utah Tech with a 25-20 score. 

The second set started off with both teams matching each other point for point and neither one getting a lead larger than two. With things tied up at 15-15, Whittnee Nihipali slammed down a kill to spark a 5-0 run to push UT to a 20-15 lead. 

To finish the second set off, Nihipali recorded another kill for a 25-19 second set win. Utah Tech had the 2-0 lead overall in the match heading into the third set. 

Utah Tech put together an 11-3 run early in the third set to ensure the momentum was in favor of the Trailblazers. With a 17-13 lead, the Trailblazers went on a 6-2 run to push them into the final points of the set. UT stayed strong and finished with a 25-19 final score and the three set match win. 

Killin' It: Nihipali led the way with 12 kills from 27 attacks and just one error for a .407 percentage. Kate Hardy also recorded double digit kills with 11 from 25 attacks and two errors for a .360 percentage. 

In total, Utah Tech had 44 kills with nine errors from 113 attacks for a .310 percentage. 

Taela Laufiso led the Trailblazers with 31 assists on the night. 

Diggin' it: Utah Tech had three Trailblazers record double digit digs. Mykenna Nelson  led with 13 on the night while Nihipali and Daugherty each had 11 for UT. In total Utah Tech had 53 digs. 

Notes to know: Utah Tech is now 8-7 overall on the season and 2-4 in WAC action. 

Next Up: The Trailblazers will hit the road to Sam Houston on Oct. 13.
