Dixie State heads to Boise to take on Boise State and NDSU

ON THE WHISTLE: Dixie State will continue the 2021 season with a pair of games in Boise, ID. First, DSU will take on Boise State, Thursday Aug. 26 and then North Dakota State, Sunday, Aug. 29.

NOTES TO KNOW:
• Dixie State holds a 1-1-0 record on the season.

• Dixie State's freshman Kalea Woodyatt scored her first collegiate goal and first Trailblazer goal of the season just eight minutes into the first game of the season.  
• Reshirt senior, Whitley Griffiths leads the Trailblazers with two goals on the season including one game winner.

GRIFFITHS EARNS PRE-SEASON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Whitley Griffiths was named to the WAC Pre-Season All-Conference team after leading Dixie State with 10 goals last season.

FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
Dixie State picked up a 2-1 win over UNLV in the season opener. DSU put a notch on the scoreboard in the first eight minutes from a corner kick. UNLV answered before the first half closed for a 1-1 score. It wasn't until the 88th minute that the Blazers were able to tuck in another goal for the game winner.

COACHING STAFF: Molly Rouse (Minnesota, 2012) is in her second season as Dixie State head coach. Rouse hnow has a 3-10-2 record as a head coach. Rouse brought back with her assistant coaches Lindsey Dare and Jennie Clark.

SEASON KICKOFFS: Dixie State has an 9-4-3 record in season openers in the NCAA era. They are also 4-1-3 in home openers.

2021 ROSTER REVIEW: Dixie State returned nearly eight starters and lost two from last years squad.

The Trailblazers return their leading scorer from last spring in Whitley Griffiths who had 10 goals and one assist. Also returning are seniors, Jill Bennett, Kelsey Cook, Tess Donaldson, junior Shaylyn Uyeshiro and sophomore McKinley Barney who all clocked over 1,000 minutes played last season.

The Trailblazers had six players earn All-Conference in the spring of 2021 with five of them returning in Griffiths (First Team), Donaldson (Second team) and Bennet, Cook and Barney (Honorable Mentions). Dixie State ended the 2021 spring season with 19 total goals.

DIXIE STATE VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: This will be the first ever match up with Boise State and North Dakota State.

KNOW YOUR FOE BOISE STATE: The Broncos are 1-0 so far on the season. BSU is coming off a 1-0 win over the University of Utah.  Kenzie MacMillan scored the unassisted lone goal for Boise State. The Broncos have fired off six shots on the season with two on frame and one scored goal. Keepers, Genevieve Crenshaw and Sydney Smith combined for the shutout in the game against Utah. Crenshaw leads BSU with two saves.

KNOW YOUR FOE NORTH DAKOTA STATE: The Bison are 0-2 so far on the season. NDSU is coming off a 0-4 loss to Baylor.   NDSU has yet to score a goal on the season. The Bison have come away with 13 saves already on the season.

UP NEXT: Dixie State will take on Idaho State on Sept. 3 and Weber State on Sept. 5 both on the road before coming back to Greater Zion Stadium to host Pacific.
