Dixie State freshman catcher
Kaden Hollow was named to the 2021
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-America Team on Wednesday. Hollow is the fourth Trailblazer to earn All-America honors in the program's NCAA era, and he is the first player to earn freshman All-America recognition.
Hollow (6-1, 210; Boise, Idaho/Rocky Mountain HS) started in 52 of 53 games played this past season, with 42 of those starts coming behind the plate. He finished the season as DSU's leader in doubles (15) and RBI (41), and wound up second on the team in home runs (9) and third in batting (.322).
Hollow concluded the season ranked in the WAC's top-10 in four offensive categories, including fifth in slugging percentage (.559), t-fifth in home runs, seventh in doubles, and ninth in RBI.
The freshman backstop, who recorded a career and DSU team season high 14-game hit streak earlier this year, hit safely in 37 of 53 games played with 12 multi-hit outings. Hollow also drove in at least one run in 20 games with 11 games with two or more RBI, highlighted by career day in DSU's road win at PAC-12 member Utah (9-7; 3/13), against which he went 4-for-6 with two homers and a career-high six RBI.
On the defensive side, Hollow threw out 12 of 49 possible base stealers and posted a .992 fielding percentage, with just three errors in 355 chances.
Dixie State closed its NCAA Division I debut season winners of 13 of its final 19 games to finish with a 24-32 overall record. The Trailblazers also posted a 21-15 mark in its first season of Western Athletic Conference play, which was good for fourth place in the league standings.
