Box Score 2 Dixie State snapped a seven game losing streak Sunday afternoon in the double header vs. Utah State. First, Dixie State picked up a 5-1 victory before falling 3-2 in the second game.
How it happened: The first two innings went scoreless for both teams. In the top of the third, Kasey Crawford started things off with a single. Laura Lockard and Hannah Hughbanks followed in suit with singles to load up the bases. Malory Eldredge then hit one over the center field fence for a grand slam giving the Trailblazers a 4-0 lead.
The next two innings went scoreless and in the bottom of the sixth Utah State was able to sneak one run across to prevent the Dixie State shutout.
In the top of the seventh, Crawford singled to start the inning. Lockard then doubled to put the runners in scoring position. Emma Sweet then singled for an RBI and gave DSU the 5-1 lead.
DSU locked down on defensive and closed out the game with a 5-1 win over Utah State.
At the plate: Lockard led DSU going 2-2 at the plate including a double. Crawford also had two hits on the day and she scored two runs. Eldredge had four RBIs with her grand slam. The Blazers totalled five runs from nine hits. Dixie didn't draw any walks and ended with four strikeouts.
In the field: The Trailblazers ended the game with 21 putouts and 14 assists.Mikaela Thomson led with 13 putouts and Quigley led with six assists.
In the circle: Carissa Burgess pitched a complete seven innings and gave up just three hits, one run and one walk. She ended the game with three strikeouts.
GAME TWO -
How it happened: In the bottom of the first inning, Utah State's Stephanie Reed started the game with a solo shot over left field. She followed that up in the bottom of the third with another solo homer to put the Aggies up 2-0 over Dixie State after three complete innings.
In the top of the fourth inning, Thomson started things off with a single to right field. Oaklee Trapp then took one to the elbow to put two runners on base. Lockard then singled to centerfield for an RBI to put the Trailblazers on the board.
In the bottom of the fifth, Utah State put up another run to take a 3-1 after five complete. In the top of the seventh, DSU had a runner in scoring position. Shea Clements then doubled for an RBI to put the score at 3-2. Despite having runners in scoring position, the Blazers couldn't get any across the plate as the Aggies closed out the inning for the win.
At the Plate: Lockard led DSU in game two with two hits. Dixie ended the game with two runs from seven hits. The Trailblazers drew one walk and had four strikeouts.
In the circle: Ashtyn Bauerle pitched six innings and gave up three runs from seven hits. She had one walk and two strikeouts.
Notes to Know: Dixie State is now 19-28 overall on the season and concluded WAC action with a 6-12 record.
Up Next: The Trailblazers will finish out the season with a double header against BYU on May 10.
