Dixie State dropped two against BYU in the final game day of the 2021 season.
How it happened: Dixie State got on the board in the first inning. Meagan Anders drew a walk and Mikaela Thomson singled up the middle for the RBI.
BYU had a big offensive inning in the third inning putting up five runs, thanks to a three RBI homer. In the bottom of the fourth, BYU was able to get two more runs across and took a 7-1 lead. The remainder of the game went scoreless for both teams and the Cougars came away with the 7-1 win.
At the plate: Thomson went 3-3 at the plate with the lone RBI of the game. The Trailblazers ended the game with five total hits, no walks and 11 strikeouts.
In the field: The Trailblazers ended the game with 18 putouts and eight assists. Thomson led with eight putouts and Anders led with four assists.
In the circle: Carissa Burgess started in the circle and pitched 4.0 innings. She gave up nine hits, seven runs and two walks. She ended the day with three strikeouts.
Kate Dolinski closed out the game pitching two innings. She gave up just one hit in the six batters faced.
GAME TWO -
How it happened: BYU had a 6-0 lead after three complete innings. In the top of the fourth, Anders crushed a ball deep over left center to put the Trailblazers on the board.
The Cougars put up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-1 lead. In the top of the seventh, Kirsten Quigley singled to left field to put a runner on base. Malory Eldredge then doubled for an RBI. The Cougars then closed out the game with an 8-2 win over the Blazers.
At the Plate: Anders led DSU in game two going 2-3 at the plate. Dixie ended the game with two runs from six hits. The Trailblazers drew three walks and had 11 strikeouts.
In the circle: Ashtyn Bauerle started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched 1.1 innings. She gave up six runs from five hits and one walk. Dolinski came in and finished out the game pitching 4.2 innings and gave up two runs from six hits.
Notes to Know: Dixie State has concluded the season with a 19-30 overall record on the season and concluded WAC action with a 6-12 record.
