Game Recap: Softball |

Dixie State comes up with series sweep with 6-4 win over UCR

The Trailblazers came away with a complete three game sweep on the weekend, taking down UC Riverside with a 6-4 score.

What Head Coach Randy Simkins said: "I'm very pleased at the way our offense swung the bat all weekend. We had RBI's from different players all throughout the line up today. Highlighting Oaklee Trapp (2-4) and Laura Lockard(2-3), two players that do not get many at bats, but capitalized with their opportunities at the plate. All in all, pumping out 30 hits in three games on the road was impressive and something that we want to carry into our tournament next weekend."

How it happened: UC Riverside got on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs from three hits. Dixie State immediately answered in the top of the second. Kasey Crawford led off the winning with a single that led to the bases loading up. With bats hot, the Trailblazers put up five runs from five hits. As the second inning closed out DSU had a 5-2 lead.

The third and fourth innings went scoreless for both teams. In the top of the fifth, Shea Clements and Mikaela Thomson both drew walks with two outs to get on base. After a wild pitch, both runners advanced to scoring position. Crawford then singled down the left field line for an RBI to push the Trailblazers lead to 6-2.

In the bottom of the fifth the Highlanders put two runs on the board to cut Dixie State's lead to 6-4. In the sixth inning, Dixie State locked down on the defensive side of the ball coming up with six more outs to solidify the 6-4 victory.

At the plate: Dixie State was led by Crawford who had two hits from four at bats with one RBI and one run. Oaklee Trapp, Laura Lockard and Meagan Anders each had two hits to contribute.

In total, Dixie State had 25 at bats with six runs from 10 hits with five RBIs. DSU drew six walks, had just two strikeouts.

In the field: Dixie State had 21 putouts and 15 assists. Thomson had 13 putouts while Anders and Carissa Burgess each had four assists.

In the circle:  Carissa Burgess started in the circle for DSU and pitched four complete innings. She gave up three hits, two runs and no walks. She had three strikeouts and hit one batter in the 16 she faced.

Ashtyn Bauerle came in and closed out the game pitching three innings. She gave up four hits, two runs and had one strikeout in the 14 batters faced.
