Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Corie Sue Holmes

Dixie State and Chicago State end in 1-1 draw after 2OT

Trailblazers men's soccer fought hard through two overtimes to come away with a 1-1 draw against Chicago State on Friday night.

WHAT HEAD COACH JONNY BROADHEAD SAID: "We will take the point/tie that gets us off the wrong track we were on for a stretch. We allowed the game to get end to end too much in the final minutes and should have managed it better to not let that happen. We loved hearing the support in the crowd until the last minute; these guys love playing in front of their fans. There's never a lot of time to dwell on our Friday games and we have to recover and get focused for Sunday against Houston Baptist."

HOW IT HAPPENED: Dixie State wasted no time getting on the board. In the fifth minute, DSU drew a throw in around the 18 yard line. Larsen Rogers sent a flip throw into the masses and Chicago State took control of the ball but Rogers quickly stepped in and recovered it. Rogers then took a shot outside of the box that bent around a defender and the keeper and sunk into the lower left corner to give Dixie the 1-0 lead.

Dixie controlled the pace for the rest of the first half and despite having four more shots on goal in the first half, DSU couldn't get another score and the first half closed out with a 1-0 lead over the Cougars.

In the second half, Chicago State tied the game up in the 80th minute. The final 10 minutes of regulation picked up on intensity and despite both teams getting off shots neither team found success sending the game into overtime.

Chicago State was able to get one shot in the first overtime but it was off target. The first overtime ended scoreless and the game went into its second overtime.

The second overtime's energy was intense and Dixie State's defense locked down and prevented the Cougars' three shots from scoring. The game concluded in a 1-1 draw.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Matt Lockwood and John Joseph each had two shots and two on frame. Rogers had two shots with one goal.

Jacob Zimmerman was in the net for the Trailblazers and played the full 110 minutes. He came away with five saves.

Dixie State ended the game with 12 total shots and seven on goal while Chicago State ended with 14 total shots and six on goal.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 1-9-1 overall on the season and are sitting 0-3-1 in WAC action.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will host Houston Baptist on Sunday Oct. 10th before hitting the road to take on California Baptist on Oct. 16.
