Volleyball swept at Chicago State

Dixie State volleyball fell in a 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 17-25) sweep to Chicago State on Saturday inside the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago, Illinois. 
 
The Trailblazers (2-9, 1-2 WAC) used a 7-3 run midway through the first set to turn an 11-11 tie into an 18-14 advantage. DSU seemed to gain control of the set with the run, but the Cougars had other plans. CSU answered with an 11-2 run to steal a 25-20 set victory and build a 1-0 lead in the match. 
 
Dixie State jumped out an 8-3 lead in set two, forcing the Cougars to call a timeout. Chicago State countered with five straight points to pull even at 8-8. The Trailblazers responded with a quick 4-1 spurt to push its lead back to 12-9. DSU maintained its three-point advantage to 14-11 and later at 18-15. Then, in a near carbon copy of the first set, the Cougars scored 10 of the last 12 points to claim another 25-20 triumph and push its lead to 2-0. 
 
DSU built an early 6-3 advantage in set three, but Chicago State quickly erased the lead with a 13-3 run to gain control and take a 16-9 lead. The Trailblazers countered with a 5-1 run to pull to within 17-14, but the Cougars closed the set and the match with an 8-3 run to earn a 25-17 win. 
 
The Trailblazers will head back on the road next week with matches at California Baptist on Thursday and Seattle University on Saturday.
