Softball adds Sahvanna Jaquish to coaching staff

Four-time Division 1 All-American and Team USA member joins the Trailblazers' staff

Dixie State softball head coach Randy Simkins has announced the addition of Sahvanna Jaquish to the Trailblazers' coaching staff.

Jaquish, a native of Highland, California, comes to Dixie State after serving as assistant coach at the University of La Verne during the 2019 season and a volunteer assistant at LSU during the 2018 season. Before coaching, Jaquish enjoyed an illustrious playing career at LSU and later with Team USA and in the National Fastpitch Pro league.

"We are very excited to add a coach of Sahvanna's caliber to our coaching staff," Simkins said. "Her experience as a player at the Division I and professional levels will provide tremendous knowledge and perspective to our program. She is very driven and passionate about the game of fastpitch, and I know she'll push our players to be better every day. Losing Coach Buchanan and Coach Christianson off of our staff left a big hole, as they've been a big part of what we've accomplished as a program. The addition of Sahvanna will immediately help fill that void, and help push our team to be competitive at the Division I level. We welcome Sahvanna to the Trailblazer family!"

As a senior at LSU,  Jaquish finished the 2017 season with a team-high 13 doubles and was second on the team in total home runs with nine. She drew a team-high 62 walks, setting a single-season program record. She became the first player in LSU history, and the 33rd in the history of the award, to earn All-American honors all four years. She also earned NFCA Division I South Region First Team, All-SEC Second Team, SEC All-Tournament Team, and was named a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 34 finalist.

The four-time All-American finished her career as the all-time RBI leader in program history, and the only player to record three seasons of 60 or more RBI. She ended her career in the NCAA Top 10 in total RBI.

With Team USA, Jaquish helped the squad win gold at the 2018 WBSC World Championship Gold, hitting two home runs and driving in six RBI.

"I am excited to teach these young athletes that are transitioning to the highest level of collegiate sports," Jaquish said. "I'm honored to be a part of a culture that already knows how to win on and off the field!"
