Dixie State University Athletics announced on Friday a two-game football series against PAC-12 power Utah for the 2028 and 2030 seasons. The series will mark the first time that the Trailblazers and Utes will have met on the football field.
Both games in the series will be play in Salt Lake City at Rice-Eccles Stadium, with the first game to take place on Thursday, August 31, 2028. The second game of the series will follow two years later on Thursday, August 29, 2030.
"It seems like [the series] is a long ways out, but it will be here before we know it," said DSU Head Football Coach
Paul Peterson. "Our goal is to compete at the highest level of college football and the University of Utah is one of the best programs in the country. This will serve to boost our jump to [NCAA] D-1 competition, and with our fantastic leadership, upcoming new facilities, increased enrollment and overall growth here in St. George, we will be closer to competing at [Utah's] level when this series happens."
In addition to the two-game football series with Utah, Dixie State has also signed contracts to play road games at NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents New Mexico State (Oct. 16, 2021-tentative), BYU (Nov. 12, 2022) and Colorado State (Sept. 30, 2023).
