ALL-TIME VS. SOUTH DAKOTA MINES: Saturday's contest marks the sixth overall meeting between Dixie State and South Dakota Mines. The teams first met on Nov. 1, 2014, in St. George in a game that saw both teams score 40 points or more and amass a combined 998 yards of total offense. The game went to overtime, where the Hardrockers held on for a 41-40 victory after a DSU extra-point attempt clanged off the upright. The Trailblazers responded in 2015, rolling to a record-setting 48-25 victory on Halloween in Rapid City. The Hardrockers avenged the Halloween loss with two consecutive victories in 2016 and 2017 before Dixie State held on last year for a 51-47 triumph in an early-season thriller at Trailblazer Stadium. South Dakota Mines currently holds a 3-2 series lead, while the series is tied at 1-1 in Rapid City.

KNOW YOUR FOE: South Dakota Mines enters Saturday's game with a 1-2 overall record, and is still searching for its first RMAC victory. The Hardrockers dropped a 37-33 decision to Colorado Mesa before falling 27-7 at Western Colorado to open the season. SD Mines earned its first overall victory in a 26-7 triumph over Simon Fraser last week in Canada.

The Hardrockers are averaging 324.7 yards (164.0 pass/160.7 rush) of total offense per game and have split time between two quarterbacks. Redshirt freshman Spencer Zur has completed 27 passes for 304 yards and one touchdown, while sophomore Toby Smith has completed 15 passes for 149 yards and one touchdown. Redshirt sophomore Anthony Ullrich has been the favorite target with 12 catches for 99 yards. Junior Ahmad Lewis has carried the bulk of the ground work, tallying 248 yards rushing on 63 carries.

Defensively, South Dakota Mines is allowing 432.7 yards (262.7 pass/170.0 rush) of total offense per game. Sophomore linebacker Cole Peterson leads the SD Mines defense with 36 tackles, while sophomore defensive lineman Thomas Chapman leads with 4.5 sacks. Junior defensive back Dominick Jackson leads the RMAC with three interceptions.

Junior kicker Enis Sefa leads the SD Mines special teams unit, and has converted on 4-of-6 (long of 42 yards) field goal attempts and 6-of-6 point-after tries.

LAST TIME OUT: Dixie State earned a 55-0 shutout over New Mexico Highlands last week in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

DOMINANT DEFENSE: The DSU defense ruled the day, snagging four interceptions (including two pick-sixes) while holding the Cowboys offense to just 113 yards of total offense, the lowest total offense output for an opponent since 2008. Additionally, the Trailblazers held the Cowboys to just 33 yards through the air, the fewest passing yards allowed in the DSU NCAA era.

SPECIAL TEAMS SWAGGER: The Trailblazer special teams unit also got into the scoring action at NMHU, as Conner Miller blocked a Cowboy punt in the fourth quarter. Simote Lokotui recovered the loose ball in the end zone for the first punt-block touchdown in DSU's NCAA era.

James Baird and Keaton Mott also continued to take of business. Baird connected on both field goal attempts, while posting a 7-for-7 performance on point-after tries. Mott averaged 42.2 yards on five punt attempts, his third consecutive game with an average over 40 yards per kick. He currently ranks third in the RMAC and 15th nationally with 42.6 yards per punt.

RENEWED RUN GAME: After totaling just 128 yards rushing through the first two games of the season, the Trailblazers amassed 269 yards on the ground in the win over the Cowboys. Sei-J Lauago led the charge with 87 yards and one touchdown on nine attempts, while Andrew Kannely-Robles and D'Arman Notoa also posted rushing touchdowns.

ROAD WARRIORS: The Trailblazers will play their third consecutive road game on Saturday, marking DSU's longest road swing since 2009.

MAKING HISTORY: Saturday's 55-0 victory over NMHU marked the first complete shutout in DSU's 14-year NCAA era. The victory also set a new Trailblazer mark for the largest margin of victory, breaking the previous margin of 42 points against Adams State last year.

The Trailblazers' 23-14 win over Fort Lewis on September 14 marked DSU's first win in a road-opener since joining the NCAA Division II ranks in 2006.

A record-setting 6,512 fans packed Trailblazer Stadium on September 7 to watch DSU take on CSU-Pueblo. The mark snapped the previous single-game attendance record of 5,498 set last year against Fort Lewis.

UP NEXT: Dixie State returns to Trailblazer Stadium and will play five of its final seven games at home, beginning with a matchup against Black Hills State next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
