Dixie State suffered its first series loss in its RMAC baseball debut season as the Trailblazers came up on the short end of a 12-6 decision at Colorado School of Mines on Sunday afternoon at Jim Darden Field. DSU dropped three of four to the Orediggers to fall to 23-11 overall, 13-7 in conference play.
The Trailblazers found themselves in an early 8-1 hole after the first four innings of play as CSM (22-9/13-7 RMAC) struck for three runs in both the first and fourth frames, which bookended single run stanzas in the second and third innings.
DSU managed to cut the deficit to 8-3 with a run in the fifth and another in the seventh, but the Orediggers put the game and series away with four runs in the home seventh. Dixie State got three of those runs back in the eighth on
Lane Pritchard's third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left center, while
Tyson Fisher doubled in another run later in the frame, but the late-inning deficit proved to be too great to overcome.
Dixie State pounded out 10 hits in the finale, with Pritchard going 2-for-4 with his homer and four runs scored, while Fisher went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Dixie State continues its eight-game road swing next weekend with a four-game series at MSU Denver on April 12-14.
