Trailblazers rally past Northwest Nazarene Friday, 79-70

Dixie State women's basketball earned its third consecutive victory on Friday, rallying for a 79-70 victory over Northwest Nazarene inside the Burns Arena.

In the teams' first matchup since 2010, the Trailblazers (4-1) found themselves facing a double-digit deficit early in the third quarter when the Nighthawks converted a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to build a 55-43 advantage.

Facing its largest deficit of the season, Dixie State battled back, responding with a 15-0 run over the final seven minutes of the period to take a 58-55 lead into the fourth quarter. Chesney Stevens sparked the run with a triple, while Ashley Greenwood and Breana Moea'i combined for the final nine points of the run.

The teams traded baskets through the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, before the Trailblazers mounted a 15-1 run over the next three minutes to turn a two-point game into a 77-61 lead. Keslee Stevenson buried a triple to jumpstart the run, while Madi Loftus connected twice from outside and London Pavlica added four points. NNU countered with a 9-1 run, but it was too little, too late, and DSU clinched the 79-70 victory.

Dixie State shot 39 percent (24-of-61) from the field, 30 percent (9-of-30) from 3-point range, and 78 percent (22-of-28) from the free throw line. The Trailblazers spread the scoring throughout the entire team, as all 10 players who saw action in the contest recorded a field goal.

Three DSU players finished in doubles figures, led by Loftus, who finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Ali Franks added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Stevens finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Emily Isaacson chipped in eight points and 13 rebounds, while Pavlica finished with six points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

The Trailblazers will close the weekend with a Saturday afternoon battle against Saint Martin's. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
