ALL-TIME VS. BLACK HILLS STATE: Saturday's game marks the third meeting between Dixie State and Black Hills State. The teams first met on Sept. 17, 2016, in Spearfish, South Dakota, in a game that saw DSU rally from a 20-0 deficit in the second half to pull within 20-14 late in the fourth quarter. However, a potential game-winning drive stalled in Yellow Jacket territory, and BHSU claimed the first victory of the series.

Dixie State claimed its first win in the series a year later on Sept. 16, 2017, with a 38-16 triumph inside Trailblazer Stadium. DSU again found itself in an early hole, trailing 10-0 in the first quarter. This time, the Trailblazers responded with 38 unanswered points before BHSU added a late touchdown.

In 2018, it was DSU's turn to build an early lead in Spearfish, taking a 35-14 lead in the third quarter. BHSU stormed back with 24 unanswered points to gain a 38-35 advantage late in the fourth quarter. However, the Trailblazers marched back down the field and scored a touchdown with less than one minute remaining to claim a 41-38 victory.  Dixie State holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 1-0 mark at Trailblazer Stadium.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Black Hills State enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record and the same mark in RMAC play. After losing their first three games, the Yellow Jackets claimed their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Fort Lewis by a 13-7 count in a defensive struggle.

BHSU averages 308.5 yards (184.0 pass/124.5 rush) of total offense per game. The Yellow Jackets have played three different quarterbacks through the first four games of the year. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Tovar has started three of those games, completing 43 passes for 446 yards and three touchdowns. Redshirt freshman Nolan Susel leads the BHSU rushing attack with 227 yards and one touchdown on 29 carries. Redshirt junior Kielar Harpham leads all receivers with 24 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns, but is also a threat to run the ball from the wildcat formation.

Defensively, the Yellow Jackets are allowing 459.8 yards (239.0 rush/220.8 pass) of total offense per game. Redshirt senior safety Josh Gurnaby leads the BHSU defense, and ranks third in the RMAC, with 46 tackles to go with five pass break ups.

Redshirt freshman Sean Dorney leads the special teams, and has connected on one field goal, while converting 9-of-10 point-after tries.

HOME SWEET HOME: After opening the season at home nearly one full month ago, the Trailblazers will return to the comfy confines of Trailblazer Stadium on Saturday to open a stretch of five of the next seven games at home. Dixie State posted a 3-0 record during its longest stretch away from home since 2009.

RMAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Hendrickson earned DSU's first conference weekly honor of the year on Monday, landing RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Hendrickson logged a career-high 14 tackles in the comeback win over South Dakota Mines, including five solo stops to go with 5.0 tackles for loss. He was a constant disruption in the SD Mines backfield, setting a new DSU single-game record with 4.5 sacks, including a solo sack on the Hardrockers' final drive to help seal the victory. Additionally, Hendrickson added one pass breakup to complete his career night.

MAKING HISTORY: The Dixie State defense recorded 7.0 sacks in Saturday's 28-16 win at South Dakota Mines, matching the DSU single-game record set against Western Colorado in 2018.

Aaron Simpson became the DSU single-season and career interception return yards leader on Saturday, snagging two more interceptions to go with 56 return yards to push his season total to 138 yards. Simpson is also the DSU single-game interception return yards leader after racking up 82 return yards at New Mexico Highlands on September 21.

The Trailblazers' 55-0 victory over NMHU on September 21 marked the first complete shutout in DSU's 14-year NCAA era. The victory also set a new Trailblazer mark for the largest margin of victory, breaking the previous margin of 42 points against Adams State last year.

The Trailblazers' 23-14 win over Fort Lewis on September 14 marked DSU's first win in a road-opener since joining the NCAA Division II ranks in 2006.

A record-setting 6,512 fans packed Trailblazer Stadium on September 7 to watch DSU take on CSU-Pueblo. The mark snapped the previous single-game attendance record of 5,498 set last year against Fort Lewis.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will host former Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Simon Fraser next Saturday at 7 p.m.
