ALL-TIME VS. WESTERN COLORADO: Saturday's game marks the fourth meeting between Dixie State and Western Colorado. The teams first met on Oct. 1, 2016, at Trailblazer Stadium. The Trailblazers earned a 28-20 victory in the inaugural matchup despite being outgained 394-378 by the Mountaineers. Dixie State took a 2-0 lead in the series in 2017, outlasting Western for a 15-12 victory inside the Mountaineer Bowl in Gunnison, Colorado. DSU earned its third consecutive victory over the Mountaineers last season with a 17-10 win at Trailblazer Stadium. Dixie State holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time series, including a 1-0 mark in Gunnison.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Western Colorado enters the weekend with a 3-3 overall record and a 3-2 mark in RMAC play. The Mountaineers own wins over South Dakota Mines, Colorado Mesa, and Chadron State, while dropping conference contests to Adams State and Colorado School of Mines.

WCU averages 22.3 points scored and 297.7 yards (183.8 pass/113.9 rush) of total offense per game. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Desch captains the offense, and has completed 88 passes for 1,027 yards and six touchdowns. Four receivers have recorded 10 or more catches, including James Bryant with a team-best 20 receptions and Zach Manchester with a team-high mark three touchdown catches. Redshirt junior Ty Leyba leads the rushing attack with 261 yards on 60 carries, while redshirt freshman Josh Cummings is the Mountaineers red-zone back with five touchdowns on 43 attempts.

Defensively, Western Colorado allows an average of 28.5 points and 393.2 yards (263.2 pass/130.0 rush) per game. Redshirt junior linebacker Lane Farris leads with a team-best 41 tackles, while defensive lineman Will Lydle has recorded a team-high 3.5 sacks. Redshirt senior defensive back Josh Nelson leads the team with three interceptions.

Senior kicker Chandler Davis leads the special teams. Davis has earned two RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week awards, and has converted 8-of-14 fields goals and 14-of-15 point-after tries.

LAST TIME OUT: Dixie State posted a 55-21 victory over Simon Fraser in non-conference action last week.

FIVE IN A ROW: The Trailblazers rattled off their fifth consecutive victory on Saturday, marking the longest win streak in their NCAA Division II era.

FIRST-HALF FRENZY: After scoring just 26 first-half points through the first four games of the season, the Trailblazers have racked up 69 first-half points in the last two games, including a season-high 21 points in the first quarter against Simon Fraser.

SPREADING THE WEALTH: For the second consecutive week, the DSU quarterbacks completed passes to 11 different receivers on Saturday. In all, the Trailblazers finished with a combined 336 yards passing and four touchdowns.

SACKING SPREE: The Dixie State defense camped out in the Simon Fraser backfield on Saturday, setting a new DSU single-game record with 10 quarterback sacks. The feat marks the second time the Trailblazers have either tied or set the single-game sack record this season, after posting 7.0 sacks at South Dakota Mines on September 28.

HE...COULD…GO…ALL…THE…WAY: Xavier Smith recorded the first Dixie State kick-return touchdown of the season on Saturday, taking a kickoff in the second quarter 99 yards to the end zone. Smith added 45 punt-return yards for a total of 144 return yards.

MAKING HISTORY: Aaron Simpson became the DSU single-season and career interception return yards leader on September 28, snagging two more interceptions to go with 56 return yards to push his season total to 138 yards. Simpson is also the DSU single-game interception return yards leader after racking up 82 return yards at New Mexico Highlands on September 21.

The Trailblazers' 55-0 victory over NMHU on September 21 marked the first complete shutout in DSU's 14-year NCAA era. The victory also set a new Trailblazer mark for the largest margin of victory, breaking the previous margin of 42 points against Adams State last year.

The Trailblazers' 23-14 win over Fort Lewis on September 14 marked DSU's first win in a road-opener since joining the NCAA Division II ranks in 2006.

A record-setting 6,512 fans packed Trailblazer Stadium on September 7 to watch DSU take on CSU-Pueblo. The mark snapped the previous single-game attendance record of 5,498 set last year against Fort Lewis.

UP NEXT: Dixie State returns to Trailblazer Stadium for another two-game homestand, beginning with a Homecoming matchup against Chadron State next week. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
