Women’s Tennis edged by Stanislaus State, 5-4

The Dixie State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to Stanislaus State on Tuesday as the Warriors edged the visitors by a 5-4 count in Turlock, California.

The Trailblazers (6-7) dropped two of the three doubles matches and headed to singles play trailing 2-1. Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) and Maria Kana Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Myron B. Thompson Academy) picked up the lone DSU point in doubles play with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Dixie State looked to bounce back in singles play, needing four wins to claim the victory. However, DSU would only get three wins and fell one short of the win. Lacey Hancock (St. George, Utah/Pine View) recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Yolena Carlon (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 singles, and Hina Goldsmith stayed undefeated on the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

The Trailblazers close their Bay Area trip with a matchup on Wednesday at Dominican at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (11 a.m. MT).
