Dixie State had leads in all three sets, but could not find its way to set point in either frame as the Trailblazers saw their four-match winning streak at Concordia-Irvine, 3-0, Friday night in the CU Arena.
Dixie State (13-13/11-7 PacWest) led 13-12 in the opening set, but the Eagles blitzed DSU with a 13-1 run, scoring the final 12 points of the stanza en route to a 25-14 set one win. The Trailblazers bolted out to an early 8-4 advantage in the second frame, but again CUI (17-9/13-6 PacWest) would rally, eventually pulling even at 14-14 before extending to an 18-14 advantage. DSU managed to cut the deficit to one point on a couple of occasions, but the Eagles held on for a 25-23 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the decisive third set, DSU raced out to a 13-8 lead, but the Eagles slowly chipped away and would pull even at 21-21 after consecutive CUI service aces. The two sides then alternated points until 23-23, that is when the Eagles managed to score the final two points to clinch the match with a 25-23 set win.
Junior Shannon Sorenson led DSU with seven kills and hit .312 overall to go with four blocks and two digs. DSU was held to a .108 hitting percentage and 27 kills over the three sets.
Dixie State will close the 2017 season with its final PacWest matches on Saturday at conference newcomer Biola at 6 p.m. (PT).
