Men's Soccer Stopped at Fresno Pacific, 3-1

Dixie State fell to 11-4-0, 7-4-0 in Pacific West Conference play after coming up on the short end of a 3-1 decision at Fresno Pacific Thursday night at Ramirez Field.

FPU (6-9-0/5-5-0 PacWest) bolted out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a Fellipe Souza goal just 4:17 into the match. Dixie State was held to just one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes, which came early in the ninth minute on a Moises Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) blast to the Sunbird frame, but FPU keeper Patrick Timmer turned away the chance to keep DSU off the board.

Fresno Pacific extended to a two-goal advantage midway through the 64th-minute when Sergio Segura scored on an Anthony Velarde corner kick feed. Dixie State got one of the goals back in the 75th-minute when senior Ather Dawood (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde HS) played a ball into freshman Mitch Wilkinson (St. George, Utah/Dixie HS), who tucked his first collegiate goal into the lower left corner of the frame to cut the deficit to 2-1.

However FPU would answer six minutes later on a Reece Rivera goal, while the Sunbird defense held the Trailblazers without a shot attempt over the final nine minutes of play to claim the result.

Dixie State was limited to just six total shots, five on goal, with Dawood accounting for two of the Trailblazers' five shots on frame.

DSU will close out the road portion of its 2017 regular season schedule Saturday afternoon at Concordia-Irvine.
