DSU Women fall at Academy of Art Thursday, 75-50

The Dixie State women's basketball team fell, 75-50, at Academy of Art Thursday inside the City College of San Francisco Gym in San Francisco.

The Trailblazers (1-12, 1-6 PacWest) took an early 6-5 lead after Tramina Jordan (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) buried a 3-pointer and Ali Franks (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) made a jumper with 7:49 remaining in the period. The teams traded baskets over the next seven minutes, and ART U took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter.

Dixie State started the second quarter just like the first, as Ashlee Burge (Riverton, Utah/Herriman HS) made a layup and Jordan drilled another trey to push DSU to a 16-15 lead with 9:02 to play. However, this time the Urban Knights answered with a 21-3 run and DSU went nearly nine minutes without a field goal. Jordan ended the drought with a jump shot just before halftime to cut the ART U lead to 36-19 at the break.

The Urban Knights connected on three consecutive 3-pointers midway through the third quarter and closed the frame on 11-3 run to push the lead to 53-29 heading to the final stanza.

Dixie State used a 12-3 run, keyed by back-to-back 3-point plays by Cassidy Carrillo (La Mirada, Calif./St. Paul HS), to cut the lead to 61-43 at the 5:06 mark of the fourth quarter. ART U countered with a 14-7 run over the next final five minutes to clinch the 75-50 win.

The Trailblazers shot 33 percent (18-of-54) from the field, 25 percent (7-of-28) from beyond the arc, and 63 percent (7-of-11) from the free throw line. Jordan finished with a team-high 16 points, while Burge added 11 points and four rebounds. Carrillo finished with a career-high nine points.

Dixie State wraps up its three-game trip at Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. PT (2 p.m. MT).
