Women’s Soccer Falls to Seattle Pacific Saturday, 1-0

McCloy with three SOG in hard-fought match

Dixie State fell to 0-2 on the young season after coming up on the short-end of a hard-fought 1-0 result against Seattle Pacific Saturday afternoon in Portland, Ore.

The Falcons tallied the lone goal of the match late in the eighth-minute of play when Hannah Huesers tucked home a shot past DSU keeper Angelica Ciucci (Stockholm, Sweden/Thorildsplans Gymnasium). Dixie State had its chances as the Trailblazers fired three shots on frame later in the stanza, but could not net the equalizer. DSU managed just two total shots in the second half but came up empty as SPU did just enough to claim the victory.

"Other than the first 10 minutes, I think we played a really good game," DSU Head Coach Kacey Bingham said." We were playing a little hesitant and soft at first, and I really think that [SPU] goal woke us up and got us going."

Seattle Pacific outshot DSU 7-6 overall, including a 5-4 edge on frame. Junior forward Darian McCloy (Herriman, Utah/Herriman HS) accounted for four of DSU's six shots with three chances on goal, while Ciucci finished with four saves.

"The opportunities that we are creating are very dangerous and we are so close to finding the back of the net," Coach Bingham noted. "Ultimately we are disappointed with the results this week, but the game experience is exactly what we need."

Dixie State opens its nine-match home slate this upcoming week as the Trailblazers will play two matches at Legend Solar Stadium. DSU opens the homestand with a date against Humboldt State on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a match against preseason No. 24-ranked Sonoma State on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 12:30 p.m.

In addition to the two Trailblazer matches, DSU will host a pair of neutral site games, beginning Thursday with Colorado Mesa taking on Sonoma State at 5 p.m., followed by a CMU vs. HSU tilt Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
