Dixie State halted its brief two-match losing skid and picked up its first Pacific West Conference win of the season with a 1-0 result over Holy Names Tuesday night at Legend Solar Stadium.
After both teams played through a scoreless first half, Dixie State (3-5-0/1-2-0 PacWest) broke the deadlock midway through the 57
th-minute when freshman
Kilee Lamb (Smithfield, Utah/Sky View HS) played a centering free kick from the right wing to senior
Aubri Detmer (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis HS), who scored from 25-yards out to put the Trailblazers up 1-0.
DSU's defense made that one-goal advantage hold up as the Trailblazers limited Holy Names (0-5-1/0-3-0 PacWest) to only two total shot attempts the entire match. The Hawks attempted just one shot on goal in the second half, which freshman netminder
Felicity Tarr (Tucson, Ariz./Mountain View Marana HS) stopped en route to her first collegiate solo shutout victory in goal.
"It was really important for us to get a win tonight," DSU Head Coach
Kacey Bingham said. "We did so many dangerous things that we haven't seen yet this season. I would have liked us to get on the end of a couple more of our opportunities. We will try to build off of this win heading into Saturday [vs. Fresno Pacific]."
Dixie State finished with 21 shots, eight on frame, with senior
Alexis Torres (Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde HS) and junior
Darian McCloy (Herriman, Utah/Herriman HS) collecting four shot attempts apiece.
Dixie State will return to action this Saturday night as the Trailblazers host Fresno Pacific at Legend Solar Stadium beginning at 8 p.m.
