Men's Soccer Slips Past Azusa Pacific, 2-1

Trailblazers win third-straight overall in PacWest road opener

Dixie State ran its winning streak to three-straight and opened up Pacific West Conference play with a 2-1 result over Azusa Pacific Thursday night in Azusa, Calif.

DSU (3-3-0/1-0-0 PacWest) opened the scoring early in the 21st-minute when freshman Moises Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) played a ball to the left wing to junior Ather Dawood (Tucson, Ariz.), who fired home a blast from 15-yards out to score his second goal in as many matches to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 lead.

Dixie State tallied an insurance goal midway through the 50th-minute when sophomore Gabby Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) won a scramble for the ball and found freshman Christian Hall (Layton, Utah/Northridge HS) (2), who found the back of the net from 18-yards away to pad the advantage at 2-0.

APU (0-3-2/0-1-0 PacWest) got one of the goals back at the 54:03 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1, but that would be one of only two shots on goal the Trailblazer defense would surrender in the stanza as DSU picked up its first-ever win over the Cougars in six matches.

Azusa Pacific outshot DSU 15-10, though the Trailblazers held a 6-4 edge in shots on frame, with Dawood and Hall combining for four of DSU's six shots on target. Senior netminder Bradley Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler HS) three saves to earn the decision in goal.

DSU will now head south to San Diego for a PacWest match at Point Loma this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (PT).
