DSU Women fall at No. 10 California Baptist Thursday

Dixie State women's basketball fell at No. 10 California Baptist on Thursday, 104-56, in the team's first road Pacific West Conference contest of the season at Van Dyne Gym in Riverside, California.

The Trailblazers (0-8, 0-2 PacWest) scored first on a Tramina Jordan (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) jumper in the paint to give DSU its only lead of the game at 2-0. CBU answered with a 3-pointer to spark an 11-0 run to give the Lancers an 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter. CBU later pushed the lead to 17-8, but DSU responded as Shelby Kassuba (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline HS) made two layups and a 3-pointer to fuel a 9-0 run to tie the game at 17-17. The teams traded baskets, and Jordan canned a triple to pull DSU to within 22-20 after the first quarter.

Dixie State tied the game at 22-22 on a Jordan jumper on the first possession of the second quarter. The Lancers responded with three consecutive baskets to push the lead to 30-22. Kili Franks (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) converted a layup attempt three minutes later to cut the lead to 30-24, but DSU would get no closer. CBU closed the quarter on a 24-4 run to take a 54-28 lead into halftime.

CBU added to the lead throughout the second half, and the game ended in victory for the Lancers.

The Trailblazers shot 46 percent (24-of-52) from the field, 36 percent (4-of-11) from beyond the arc, and 66 percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line. Kassuba finished with a career-high 18 points and seven rebounds, while Jordan added 15 points and Hannah Roberts (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley HS) finished with a career-high 10 points.

Dixie State wraps up its two-game southern California trip with a Saturday afternoon matchup at Azusa Pacific. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Pacific Time (2 p.m. MT).
