ALL-TIME VS. FORT LEWIS: Saturday's game marks the second meeting between Fort Lewis and Dixie State on the gridiron. The teams first met in the Dixie Rotary Bowl in St. George on Dec. 2, 2006. Fort Lewis rallied for a 24-14 victory, after trailing 14-3 at halftime, to claim the only win in the series between the teams.
KNOW YOUR FOE: Fort Lewis enters the game with a 4-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. After dropping six of their first seven games, the Skyhawks are riding a three-game win streak, outscoring opponents by a count of 157-73 in those three games. Fort Lewis leads the RMAC in rushing offense (273.8) and ranks fourth in the RMAC in total offense (429.3 yards per game). Running back Drake Griffin ranks third in the RMAC with 1,236 yards rushing (123.6 yards per game) and nine touchdowns.
The Skyhawks rank second in the RMAC in rushing defense (125.7 yards per game) and third in total defense (341.9 yards per game). Linebacker Andrew Ike ranks ninth in the RMAC with a team-high 81 tackles, while linebacker Shane Nelson has logged 61 tackles and defensive end OJ Thompson has recorded 50 tackles.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Dixie State can clinch its first winning season in the Division II era (2006-present) with a win on Saturday.
RECORD CHASERS: The Trailblazers have rushed for 2,196 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2016, just 187 yards and one touchdown behind the 2015 team, which sits atop both the team single-season rushing and rushing touchdowns lists.
Redshirt freshman running back Clifford Simms (Compton, Calif./St. John Bosco HS) has rushed for 796 yards and seven touchdowns this season, landing him at No. 2 on the DSU single-season rushing yards list and at No. 3 on the single-season rushing touchdowns lists, 52 yards and three touchdowns behind senior running back DeJon Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif./Arleta HS), who sits atop both lists.
COACHING STAFF: Head coach Shay McClure is in his first season as DSU head coach after serving as Director of Defense last season. McClure is joined by offensive coordinator Reilly Murphy and defensive coordinator Shawn Howe on a staff that features four returning coaches from last season and eight newcomers to the staff for the 2016 season.
McClure, Howe, defensive line coach Dustin Sobieraj, and assistant defensive backs coach Marcus Graves represent the four returning coaches, while Murphy, offensive line coach Keola Loo, wide receivers coach Justin Mesa, offensive assistant Jose Flores, offensive assistant Mitch Glasmann, offensive assistant Jake Hardcastle (Midway, Utah/Wasatch HS), defensive backs coach Izaiah Williams, and defensive assistant Ryan Williams represent the eight newcomers to the staff. The coaching staff was finalized prior to spring practices, giving the current staff a full spring camp leading to into fall camp and the beginning of the season.
