Dixie State extended its winning streak to seven matches as the Trailblazers shut out Academy of Art, 2-0, in Pacific West Conference play on Homecoming Saturday night at Legend Solar Stadium.
DSU (9-5-0/7-2-0 PacWest) tallied both goals in the opening half, the first coming midway through the 22
nd-minute off the boot of freshman
Kamie Hunter (Hooper, Utah/Fremont HS), who fired home a shot off the right post and in from 18-yards out for her first collegiate goal, which gave Dixie State a 1-0 lead.
The Trailblazers struck again 15 minutes later as junior forward
Darian McCloy (Herriman, Utah/Herriman HS) netted her PacWest-leading 11
th goal of the year to stake DSU to a two-goal advantage. Junior defender
Shelby Christensen (Bountiful, Utah/Woods Cross HS) corralled a loose ball and played a pass to McCloy, who blasted a shot from the left wing inside the far post from 15-yards out.
Dixie State's defense held the Urban Knights (1-12-1/1-7-1 PacWest) to two total shot attempts, both of which came in the first half, and only one shot on goal. Meanwhile the Trailblazers rattled off 21 shots, 11 on frame, including eight shots on goal in 13 total attempts in the second half, but came up empty.
"We got it done in the first half tonight," DSU Head Coach
Kacey Bingham said. "I honestly think our second half was the better half but we were unlucky with finishing. We were able to get a lot of our players time tonight. Our younger players are really starting to make an impact."
Dixie State continues its regular-season ending five-match homestand next Saturday, Oct. 29, vs. Dominican University at 7 p.m., at nearby Dixie High School.
