FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Saturday's win over No. 23 Colorado Mesa marked three different firsts at the NCAA Division II level (2006-Present). The win marked DSU's first win over a ranked opponent, first three-game win streak, and first win in Grand Junction.
RECORD CHASERS: Senior running back DeJon Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif./Arleta HS) pulled into a tie atop the all-time DSU career rushing touchdowns list with his 14th rushing touchdown at Colorado Mesa on Saturday. Coleman is now even with former quarterback Griff Robles (2012-13). Coleman also moved into fourth on the career rushing yards list at 1,231 yards on the ground, just 154 yards behind the leader Adam Wells (1,385 yards – 2007-10).
Redshirt freshman running back Clifford Simms (Compton, Calif./St. John Bosco HS) has joined the record-chasing hunt in his debut season in a Trailblazer uniform. Through seven games, Simms has rushed for 625 yards and six touchdowns, landing him at No. 7 on the DSU career rushing yards list and at No. 5 on the career rushing touchdowns list. Additionally, Simms sits at No. 5 on the single-season rushing yards list and No. 3 on the single-season rushing touchdowns list, 223 yards and four touchdowns behind Coleman, who sits atop both lists. Lastly, Simms became just the fourth DSU player to rush for 200 yards or more on Saturday with 207 yards at Colorado Mesa, moving him into No. 4 on the single-game rushing yards list.
COACHING STAFF: Head coach Shay McClure is in his first season as DSU head coach after serving as Director of Defense last season. McClure is joined by offensive coordinator Reilly Murphy and defensive coordinator Shawn Howe on a staff that features four returning coaches from last season and eight newcomers to the staff for the 2016 season.
