Volleyball Swept at Point Loma Saturday

Dixie State could not overcome a sluggish start in its second Pacific West Conference match in as many days as the Storm was swept in three games at Point Loma Saturday in San Diego, 18-25, 12-25, 20-25. With the loss DSU fell to 3-7 overall, 0-2 in PacWest play, while the Sea Lions improved to 6-3 on the year, 1-0 in league action.

Point Loma never trailed in the match and used early runs in each set to keep the Storm at bay, including an 8-0 run to begin the second frame after the Sea Lions coasted to a seven-point win in the opening stanza. Dixie State stayed within striking distance in the decisive third set, including pulling to within 22-20 in the late stages, but Point Loma scored the final three points of the set to put the match away.

Dixie State was doomed by a poor hitting night as the Storm was held to season-lows in kills with 30 and a .116 hitting percentage. Freshman Taylor Duryea (Logan, Utah/Sky View HS) led the Storm with seven kills and nine digs, while junior Delayne Daniel (American Fork, Utah/Pleaseant Grove HS) saw her four-match double-double streak come to an end as she finished with six kills and four digs. Point Loma finished with 52 kills and hit .259 for the match.

After 10-straight road matches to open the 2015 season, Dixie State will finally open the home portion of its schedule with a seven-match homestand, beginning with a PacWest showdown with Notre Dame de Namur this Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m., in the DSU Student Activities Center.
