ST. GEORGE, Utah - Moving up a spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II poll to No. 4, the Dixie State softball team takes on No. 19 Cal Baptist and Cal State San Bernardino in California this weekend.
The Red Storm (31-6, 20-0) return to Pacific West Conference play a four-game series against the No. 2 team in the conference in Cal Baptist (32-6, 19-3) on Friday and Saturday in Riverside. Friday's doubleheader begins at 6 p.m. MT/5 p.m. PT and Saturday's at 2 p.m. MT/1 p.m. PT.
The team will be off Sunday and then return to action Monday at 1 p.m. MT/12 p.m. PT for a doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino (17-17, 9-10) of the CCAA.
DSU is hitting .354 as a team, good for No. 9 in the country while the team's 1.53 collective ERA is No. 7.
Janessa Bassett (Stansbury Park, UT/Tooele) leads the team with a .442 batting average and 53 hits this season. She is tied for fouth nationally with 32 stolen bases and is No. 2 in the country with 45 runs scored in 37 games. She went 6 for 7 with three walks and scored four runs over the last three games.
Dixie State clubbed five homers against Colorado Mesa, including a pair from
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School). Reiter leads DSU with seven this year.
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) continues to stay in the win column, moving to 17-0 after another victory. Her 0.99 ERA is No. 11 nationally.
Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) is 13-4 on the season and is No. 13 in shutouts with a team-leading five.
The Storm's 23-game win streak ended with a loss to Division I Southern Utah but the Red Storm quickly returned to the win column with a sweep of Colorado Mesa.
