LAIE, Hawaii - Dixie State outscored the BYU-Hawaii softball team 22-2 over two games to win its 11th in a row and sweep the four-game series from the Seasiders.
The Red Storm (17-5, 8-0) took game one 9-2 and game two 13-0.Â
Game 1
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) improved to 10-0 in the circle on the year and got some help from the bats again.
Autumn Woodfall (Kaysville, UT/Davis High School) went 2 for 4 and
Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) smashed her first home run of the season.
Dixie State got two in the first inning on an RBI groundout and a single from Woodfall. The Seasiders cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first.
Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) doubled in the second to drive in two runs and Sherwin's solo shot in the third made it 5-1.
DSU broke it open with three runs in the the fourth. Two came on RBI base hits by
Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) and
Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) and then Gelter scored on a double steal.
The Seasiders got a run back in the fourth only to have it erased in the fifth when
Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) reached on an error and then scored later on a wild pitch.
Dixie State took game one 9-2.
Game 2
Dixie State's bats were too much to handle, especially in a 10-run fifth inning for BYU-Hawaii in game two.
Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) tossed a two-hit gem en route to a 13-0 shutout. Feickert struckout seven over five innings and improved to 6-3 on the year with the win.
Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) hit a three-run jack and
Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) hit a pinch hit grand slam in the fifth inning to put the game well out of reach.
In the fifth, Hine hit an RBI double, Chavez scored on a wild pitch and Woodfall singled in another to make it 6-0.Â
Sherwin singled up the middle to add two more and
Mallory Paulson (Fruita, CO/Fruita Monument) scored after an error on a ground ball for a 9-0 lead.
Beardshear pinch hit with three ducks on the pond and cashed in with a grand slam to put the finishing touches on a 13-0 five-inning affair.
Dixie State travels over the big island of Hawaii to take on the Hilo Vulcans for two games on Monday, starting at 3 p.m. MT.
