ST. GEORGE, Utah - Riding a 19-game winning streak and a move to No. 5 in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll, the Dixie State softball team returns to Karl Brooks Field for a four-game series against Academy of Art Friday.
Friday's doubleheader against the Urban Knights (12-11, 7-3) features a first pitch at 3 p.m. MT. with game two expected to follow shortly after. On Saturday, the Red Storm (25-5, 16-0) will play Academy of Art in another twin bill starting at 11 a.m. MT.
Dixie State remained undefeated in PacWest play with a grueling 12-game road trip to Hawaii over a 10-day period. DSU went a perfect 12-0 and outscored opponents 81-13 in Hawaii with a team batting average of .350 and an earned run average for the pitching staff of 1.05.
Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) hit .429 on the trip while
Janessa Bassett (Stansbury Park, UT/Tooele) and
Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) both hit .400 for the 12-game span. Beardshear clubbed four homers on the trip, including two grand slams.
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) and
Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) each went 6-0 and struckout 61 batters between the dynamic duo.
For the season, Bassett leads the team with a .426 average, 43 hits and has collected a hit in 25 of 30 games. She leads the PacWest with 27 stolen bases and is tied for No. 3 nationally.
Duncan is 14-0 in the circle with an ERA of 0.81 this season, having allowed just 12 earned runs this season. Feickert won her 10th game of the year against HPU and in 76.1 innings pitched has struckout 82 batters.
