TUCSON, Ariz. - The bats continued to stay hot for the Dixie State softball team, winning two more games over Metro State 9-1 and Midwestern State 10-3 at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic on Saturday.
GAME 1
A seven-run third inning against Metro State was more than enough as
Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) pitched another gem, giving up just two hits over five innings, striking out seven to earn her second win of the year.
Five different members of the Red Storm (4-0) had multi-hit games against Metro State.
Janessa Bassett (Stansbury Park, UT/Tooele) went 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School),
Mallory Paulson (Fruita, CO/Fruita Monument) and
Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) all collected doubles in the win.
Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) singled in a run to start the scoring barrage in the third inning. After another run Hartman doubled in two more and Bassett poked a base hit for two more. Hine roped another double to bring in one more run to give Dixie State a 7-0 lead after three innings.
Feickert gave up a solo dinger in the fifth but two RBI singles in the bottom half of the inning ended it early with a 9-1 for the Red Storm.
GAME 2
Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) pitched three scoreless innings and went 3 for 3 at the plate to lead the Red Storm to a 10-3 win over Midwestern State.
Paulson went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer and Bassett tripled.
Game two saw Dixie State trail for the first time a 2-1 heading into the bottom half of the third inning.
The Red Storm didn't stay down for long, getting two runs in the bottom half after three errors from Midwestern State.Â
It was back-and-forth however with Midwestern State knotting it up at 3-3.Â
The bats woke up in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on seven hits to make it 8-3. DSU pushed across two more in the sixth and finished with a 10-3 win to move on to the semifinals of the Gold Bracket.
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) pitched four innings for the Red Storm and Beardshear finished it off.
Dixie State will take on the University of Central Oklahoma at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
