ST. GEORGE, Utah - The No. 3 Dixie State softball team will head south to Las Vegas to play in the 2015 Desert Stinger Tournament, hosted by Montana State-Billings.
The Red Storm (4-2) will play five teams in three days at Majestic Park, just northwest of Vegas. The tournament features over 30 teams in competition, including several ranked teams.
Dixie State begins the tournament against No. 14 Augustana at 7 p.m. Friday night. DSU takes on Central Washington and Western Washington on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. Sunday, the Red Storm will face No. 19 Humboldt State at 11:30 a.m. and No. 10 Cal State Monterey Bay at 2 p.m. All times are Pacific Time. Live stats are available at the link above or on the

To start the 2015 season, Dixie State went 4-2 at the Leadoff Classic in Tucson, outscoring opponents 44-13. The two losses came to Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M, the 2013 and 2014 national championship teams, respectively.
Pitchers
Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ),
Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) and
Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) combined to go 39.1 innings allowing just 23 hits and posted an ERA of 2.29. The staff struckout 42 batters with 29 of them coming from Feickert, who was named to the Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team.
At the plate, the team posted a .350 batting average and scored 44 runs.
Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) posted a .421 average over the weekend while
Janessa Bassett (Stansbury Park, UT/Tooele) led the team with nine hits, stole six bases and scored a team-high seven runs.
Mallory Paulson (Fruita, CO/Fruita Monument) blasted two homers and hit .364 while
Autumn Woodfall (Kaysville, UT/Davis High School) had a double and a home run to go with her team-best seven RBI.
