Volleyball Swept at BYU-Hawai'i, 3-0

Storm sees nine-match winning streak snapped; still owns 1-game lead in PacWest standings with three conference matches left

Dixie State saw its season-high nine-match winning streak snapped in a 3-0 sweep at the hands of BYU-Hawai'i, 25-16, 25-17, 25-11, Thursday night in Laie, Hawai'i. Despite the loss, DSU (16-9/13-4 PacWest) still owns a one-game lead over both the Seasiders (14-11/12-5 PacWest) and California Baptist (19-6/12-5 - won at NDNU Thursday) in the Pacific West Conference standings with three league matches left in the regular season.

The Seasiders bolted quickly out of the gate as BYU-H registered kills on eight of its first nine points in taking an early 9-3 lead. After a DSU timeout, the Storm slowly chipped away at the deficit and got as close at 15-13 after consecutive kills from junior Lindsay Jones (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) and a Seasider hitting error, which led to a BYU-H timeout. That stoppage worked in the Seasiders' favor as they scored 10 of the final 13 points of the set to claim the nine-point win.

Dixie State came out ready to play to open set two and held a 6-4 lead early in the frame thanks to two more Jones kills, but BYU-H answered with a quick rally to knot the score at 9-9. The Seasiders then erupted for a 9-4 run to take an 18-13 lead en route to an eight-point set victory and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. BYU-H kept the momentum through the break and into the deciding third set as the Seasiders scored five of the first six points in the stanza and never looked back in completing the sweep.

Jones led the Storm with eight kills, while junior Delayne Daniel (American Fork, Utah/Pleaseant Grove HS) finished with six kills and three digs. DSU was held to a .144 hitting percentage, including a .034 clip in the final set. Dixie State's defense was also held without a block for the first time this season and the first time since 2006, before the program joined the PacWest Conference.

Dixie State will make a quick turnaround and travel back to Honolulu for a match at Chaminade Friday night at 7 p.m. (HT).
