Women's Soccer Set to Host BYU-H and Hawai'i Hilo This Week

(MATCH NOTES)

Dixie State (3-5-0/1-3-0 PacWest) looks to continue its recent winning ways this week as the Storm comes home to host a pair of matches at Hansen Stadium. DSU opens the homestand with a match against PacWest foe BYU-Hawai'i (2-4-2/1-1-1 PacWest) this Thursday, October 8, followed by a game vs. Hawai'i Hilo (3-1-2/2-1-0 PacWest) on Saturday, Oct. 10. Both matches will begin at 4:30 p.m. (MT), and live stats and streaming video links can be found at www.dixieathletics.com.

DIXIE STATE VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: Dixie State enters Thursday's match vs. BYU-H looking to even the overall series as the Seasiders own slim 6-5-1 lead, though the Storm did register a 2-1 victory in Laie last season. DSU has a commanding 10-1-0 series edge vs. Hawai'i Hilo and had won the first nine meetings vs. the Vulcans prior to their last visit to St. George in 2013, when UHH snapped the Storm's streak with a 1-0 win. Dixie State returned the favor the next year with a 2-0 result in Hilo.

COACHING STAFF: Head coach Kacey Bingham (Arizona State, 2006) is in her third season on the Red Storm bench. Bingham has compiled a 20-19-3 overall record, including a 16-11-1 mark in Pacific West Conference play. Bingham is joined on the sideline by third-year assistant coach Rielee Reed, and first year assistants Emily Fox (Lehi, UT/Lehi), former DSU men's soccer coach Danny Ortiz, and Nyle Ortiz.

STORM PICKED FIFTH IN PACWEST: Dixie State was selected to finish fifth in the PacWest Conference for the second consecutive year. Point Loma received 11 first-place votes to top the poll, followed by California Baptist, Azusa Pacific and Hawai'i Pacific. Fresno Pacific and Concordia came in below the Storm to round out the top half of the poll. The Storm finished the 2014 season on a three-game winning streak to end with a 10-7-1 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the PacWest.

WASHINGTON NAMED PACWEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dixie State freshman forward Tori Washington (South Jordan, Utah/Herriman HS) was named Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week this past Monday for her performances in the Storm's two matches in the Bay Area last weekend. Washington scored three goals and put five of her 11 shots on frame in helping lead the Storm to a road split. Last Friday at Dominican University, she tallied her first collegiate goal in the Storm's 2-1 loss. Washington followed that up with two more goals, including her first game-winning tally, in DSU's 3-0 result at Holy Names on Sunday afternoon.

QUICK KICKS: Dixie State scored a season-high three goals in the Storm's blanking of Holy Names, which snapped DSU's four-match losing streak after the club opened the year with consecutive shutout victories ... in fact, all three of DSU's victories in 2015 have come via shut out ... prior to the three-goal outing at Holy Names, DSU had scored just two goals in its previous three matches ... senior forward Jasmine Arollo (Glendale, Ariz./Apollo HS) has had her boot on five of DSU's 10 goals on the season ... Arollo scored her second goal of the year in the second half vs. APU (9/24) ... she also assisted on the Storm's game-winning tally in the season opener at UAV (9/5), and she assisted on DSU's first goal at Chico State (9/12) before scoring her first goal of the year later in that match ... Arollo leads the team in shots (21) and SOG (15), while Washington's recent offensive output has placed her second on the club in shots (17) and SOG (5) ... playing in her third collegiate match after being added to the active roster prior to the Point Loma match (9/26), freshman forward Kesley Rumsey (Provo, Utah/Timpview HS) scored her first collegiate goal at HNU last Sunday, which came on an Arollo assist ... senior netminder Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde HS) stopped four shots and picked up her first solo shutout victory of the season at HNU, which lowered her GAA to 0.40 ... entering this weekend's matches, Dixie State is averaging 12.8 shots/4.5 SOG per match.

UP NEXT: Dixie State opens a four-match road swing next week as the Storm returns to the Bay Area to face Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday, Oct. 15, followed by a match at Academy of Art on Saturday, Oct. 17.
