Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Mountain Time, as the Storm return to the field after the bye week. LAST MEETING: Nov. 1, 2014. Dixie State racked up 492 yards of total offense, but a missed PAT proved to be the difference in a 41-40 overtime loss to South Dakota Mines at Hansen Stadium. With the score tied at 34-34 after regulation, the Hardrockers scored on the first play of overtime on a trick play. The Red Storm answered with a TD run from  Myles Burton (Berkeley, Calif./Angelo Rodriguez HS) , but the point-after try by  Alex Giordani (West Jordan, Utah/West Jordan HS)  sailed wide right to end the game in favor of the Hardrockers. Senior receiver Nate Stephens (Redding, Calif./Shasta HS) led the offense with a DSU career-high 200 yards receiving on 13 catches. Junior linebacker Trevor Oakley (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill HS) led the defense with 14 tackles.

ALL-TIME VS. SD MINES: Saturday's game marks the second meeting between Dixie State and South Dakota Mines. The teams met in their inaugural matchup on Nov. 1, 2014 at Hansen Stadium in St. George, in a game that saw both teams score 40 points or more and amass a combined 998 yards of total offense. The game went to overtime, where the Hardrockers held on for a 41-40 victory. SD Mines holds the all-time series lead with a 1-0 mark.

LEADING THE DEFENSE: Defensive back Colton Olson (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork HS) is making the most of his sophomore season, leading the defensive attack and landing in the Dixie State record books. Through seven games, Olson has recorded a team-high 71 tackles and ranks second in the GNAC with 10.1 tackles per game. Olson broke the school record for tackles in a single game with 18 tackles against Azusa Pacific on October 17. The previous mark of 17 had been accomplished three times by three different players (Keauntea Bankhead – 2010, Nick Cragin – 2010, Cache Morgan – 2011).

KNOW YOUR FOE: South Dakota Mines enters the game with a 5-3 overall record and a 2-2 mark in GNAC play. The Hardrockers have split their last four games, with wins over Central Washington and Simon Fraser sandwiched between losses to Humboldt State and Azusa Pacific. SD Mines ranks third in the GNAC in total offense, averaging 436.5 yards per game, and presents a balanced run/pass attack.

The Hardrockers average 229.6 rushing yards and 206.9 passing yards per game. Quarterback Trent McKinney has completed 98-of-160 passes for 947 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions. McKinney has completed passes to 15 different receivers, but his three favorite targets are Ben Broeker (22 catches, 225 yds, 3 TD), Zach Huber (22 catches, 223 yds, 2 TD), and Kevin Mills (22 catches, 153 yds, TD).  Running back Devin Nixon has rushed for 745 yards and eight touchdowns on 168 carries, while McKinney (76 carries, 515 yds, 8 TD) also presents a running threat from the quarterback position.
