Men's Soccer Records Seventh-Straight Shutout, Blanks AAU 1-0

DSU remains atop and unbeaten in PacWest standings, extends shutout streak to 700+ minutes

Dixie State remained atop and unbeaten in the Pacific West Conference standings after posting its seventh-straight shutout result with a 1-0 win at Academy of Art Saturday afternoon in San Francisco. The win extended DSU's school-record defensive shutout streak to 700:50 as the Storm improved to 8-1-2 overall, 6-0-2 in PacWest play.

Dixie State tallied the lone goal of the match late in the 30th-minute as sophomore forward Frankie Mallek (Yuma, Ariz./Kofa HS) headed in a straight-on shot off a cross to the far post from senior Santiago Alejandro (Oakley, Calif./Alhambra HS). The goal was Mallek's third of the season, while Alejandro recorded his team-high fourth assist and 12th point. The assist also moved Alejandro to t-third on DSU's single-season assist list, and he is now alone in second place on DSU's career list with seven.

DSU's defensive unit, which has played solid all season long, made the goal stand as the Storm held the Urban Knights (5-5-2/3-3-1 PacWest) to just four shots on goal (14 total), with junior goalkeeper Bradley Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler HS) stopping all four shots on frame in recording his eighth win and eighth shutout result overall.

"I thought we were solid today," Head Coach Josh Pittman said. "We managed the game well and got a great cross from Santiago [Alejandro] and Frankie [Mallek] ran where he was supposed to and had a great finish."

Dixie State concludes its four-match road swing next week as the Storm heads down to SoCal to face PacWest rival California Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 22, and league newcomer Concordia University on Saturday, Oct. 24.
