HONOLULU -
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) and
Leslie Tademy (Phoenix, AZ/South Mountain) each posted 16 points and Dixie State beat Chaminade 75-68 on Tuesday night in Hawaii.
Mann finished with her third double-double in four games with 13 rebounds to go along with her 16 points. Tademy's 16 came on 6 of 9 shooting from the field. She added three assists, two rebounds and a steal.
"It was a great team win," head coach
Jenny Thigpin said. "We were able to fight back after a slow start and stay together as a unit. Free throws played a big part down the stretch and we were able to knock them down when we needed too."
Taylor Maynes (Salome, AZ/Salome) just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards while picking up three steals and two assists.
Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) was also in double-figures with 12 points.
Dixie State got down early by as many as 15 with Chaminade coming out of the gates hot.Â
The Red Storm battled back and steadily chipped away to make it just a four-point game, down 38-34 at halftime. MIller had 11 at the break while
Nishiki Washington (Nagasaki, Japan/Miura) had seven points off the bench.
After halftime, Dixie State exploded for a 9-0 run to take the lead at 43-38, capped by a
Chermayne Moore (Pinole, CA/Hercules) 3-pointer at the 16:08 mark.
Chaminade came back to tie it at 51-51 inside of 10 minutes but DSU answered with an 11-3 run to get back in the driver's seat with 5:12 to go after a Tademy layup.
Dixie State pushed the advantage to 12 points with under three minutes to play but the Silverswords had a last-ditch effort and cut the lead to four points inside of one minute.
Mann made 5 of 6 freebies down the stretch to ice the game and give Dixie State a 75-68 win.
