SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Turnovers plagued the Dixie State women's basketball team again as the Red Storm were beat by Academy of Art 83-61 on Saturday night.
Although
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) logged her eighth double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, 31 turnovers were too much to come back from. Dixie State (5-14, 4-9). Academy of Art (12-8, 7-5) took advantage of the miscues to the tune of 36 points off turnovers.Â
"We can't continue to turn the ball over like we are," head coach
Jenny Thigpin said. "It's the difference right now in the game and we need to go find higher percentage shots."
Leslie Tademy (Phoenix, AZ/South Mountain) added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists and one steal. The Red Storm made 24 of 66 shots but just 2 of 21 from behind the arc.
Academy of Art came out hot hitting its first five shots to take an early 15-7 edge, pushing the lead to double digits at the 13-minute mark. DSU answered with five straight to cut the lead back to 19-14 inside of 10 minutes before halftime.
The Red Storm battled back to a 21-18 deficit but Academy got hot again and pushed the lead back to 34-20 with five minutes remaining until the break.
Mann had 10 points and eight rebounds at halftime but Dixie State still trailed 45-28.
The second half started much like the first with Academy of Art scoring the first 12 points to add on to its lead before Mann broke up the run with a layup with 14:47 on the clock.
The Red Storm didn't have enough though to get back in it and it got away from them. The Urban Knights won it 83-61.
