Ready to begin the new season, the 2014 Dixie State women's volleyball team will open the season at the Seattle Pacific Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6 in Seattle, Wash.
The Red Storm will play four matches over two days on Friday and Saturday. DSU's first match will be vs. California State University, Los Angeles on Friday at 10:30 a.m. MT. The team will play a second match later in the day at 4 p.m. MT against Chico State.
On day two of competition, Dixie State will take on Cal Poly Pomona Saturday at 12 p.m. MT. Then the night cap will feature the Red Storm taking on host school, Seattle Pacific at 8 p.m. MT in Brougham Pavillion.
#DIXIEVB Week 1 NotesWOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL STORYLINESBACK AND READY FOR MORE:Â Dixie State closed out the 2013 season with the first trip to the NCAA tournament and finished the campaign with a 17-10 overall record. Head coach Robyn Felder was named PacWest Coach of the Year and now looks to guide the Red Storm to a deeper run the NCAA tournament with a veteran team returning.RED STORM PICKED TO FINISH FOURTH IN THE PACWEST:Â While picked to finish fourth in the conference is substantial, the Red Storm will look to prove the voters wrong again and finish with an even better mark. Point Loma took the No. 1 spot while BYU-Hawaii was just five points behind with its second-place selection. Cal Baptist earned the third spot just ahead of Dixie State. Last year, the Red Storm volleyball team was picked to finish seventh, and finished third in the PacWest.
VETERANS AND FRESH FACES:Â The 2014 squad returns several players from last year's NCAA tournament team. Maddie Rex (Tucson, AZ/Sabino), Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta), Makenzi Bird (Saint George, UT/Snow Canyon ), Shelby Sorensen and Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) are all back to highlight a strong group of returners. Newcomers Talia rown, Edithza Urias (Bakersfield, CA/Golden Valley) and Brylie Bair (Snake River, ID/Snake River) complete the 2014 recruting class.
