Box Score BELMONT, Calif. - The Dixie State women's volleyball team used a team effort to beat a struggling Notre Dame de Namur team in straight sets (25-18, 25-4, 25-22), including a dominant second set.
Dixie State (8-5, 5-0) has won six matches in a row and complete a three-match road trip unblemished. The Red Storm hit .387 for the match, boosted by a second set where DSU hit .565.
Kendahl Weiland (Albany, OR/West Albany) and
Edithza Urias (Bakersfield, CA/Golden Valley) led the Red Storm with nine kills apiece.Â
"It was a great weekend for us," head coach
Robyn Felder said. "Playing back-to-back-to-back is exhausting but these girls were focused and well conditioned. We are looking forward to being home."
The Red Storm set the tone early, scoring the first 11 points before NDNU (0-11, 0-4) got on the board. The Argos didn't fold, going on a 7-1 run after a rough start to cut Dixie State's lead down to 13-7. DSU outscored NDNU 8-4 over the next stretch to stay in front and took set No. 1 25-18.
The second set saw the Red Storm completely dismantle the Argonauts. Another fast start make it 7-0 Red Storm. Then ahead 12-3, Dixie State scored the next 11 straight before NDNU could stop the attack. Dixie State would win it big, 25-4.
Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta) had four kills in the second set and DSU connected on 13 of 23 attacks.
NDNU gave a good battle in the third set, but the early dominance of the Red Storm in sets one and two was too much to come back from. Dixie State led 8-5 but the Argos came back to knot the score up 9-9. DSU answered with three straight to go back in front. NDNU came right back and took their first lead of the match at 15-14. It was short lived when the Red Storm scored the next three and never gave up the lead again, winning the third set 25-22.
Dixie State returns home to take on Azusa Pacific on Friday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. in St. George.Â
