Box Score OAKLAND, Calif. – At the start of, a three-match road trip, the Dixie State women's volleyball team swept its third match in a row with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-22) win over Holy Names.
With the win, Dixie State improves to 6-5 on the season and remains undefeated (3-0) in Pacific West Conference play. Holy Names is still looking for its first win of the season.
Kendahl Weiland (Albany, OR/West Albany) recorded 11 kills to tie for the match-high. The Red Storm started the match hitting .324 in the opening set, cooling off to .269 for the match. The Hawks were only able to muster a .110 mark for the match.
Maddie Rex (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) added eight kills and 10 digs while
Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) had 23 digs and Shelby Sorensen posted 24 assists.
The first set started out with Dixie State holding a 10-7 advantage before starting to gain some separation. The Red Storm strung together three straight and closed the first set on a 12-2 run to cruise to a 25-11 win.
Dixie State led 16-10 in set two but Holy Names made a late run to cut the lead all the way down to 21-20. DSU responded with a kill from
Edithza Urias (Bakersfield, CA/Golden Valley) to get some cushion and spark enough of a late run to put the Hawks away 25-21.
Holy Names wouldn't go quietly. Tied at 12-12, the Storm finally pulled ahead 17-16. The lead still changed back and forth until Dixie State got back-to-back kills from
Nicole Koehler (Sandy, UT/Alta) and another from Rex to push the lead to 24-21. Rex got one more to win it 25-22.
The road swing continues with a trip to San Francisco to face Academy of Art on Friday, Sept. 26 at 8:30 p.m.
