Storm host surging, new-look Jacks: Finally in the comfy confines of Hansen Stadium, the Dixie State football team host the first of a three-game homestand Saturday against Humboldt State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live coverage on CEC-TV, ESPN SportsRadio 106.1 FM, and SouthernUtahLive.com. The Storm are looking for their first win of the season after road losses in Colorado and Washington while HSU opened with a road win at Texas A&M-Kingsville and backed it up with a home win over nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific.

GNAC review: Week two saw league matchup that didn't count towards the 2014 GNAC title and one non-conference tilt. DSU fell 48-14 at Central Washington, Western Oregon handled Simon Fraser 38-14, Humboldt State ran wild over Azusa Pacific 30-10, and South Dakota Mines fell in the battle for the Homestake Trophy to Black Hills State 42-30.

History with the Jacks: Recent history has favored the Storm on the gridiron. Dixie State took both meetings with HSU last year – a 49-24 win in Arcata and a 28-19 triumph a month later at Hansen. In eight games played at Hansen, the series is tied 4-4. HSU holds the advantage at the Redwood Bowl, 6-2.

National ranks: Even with a dip in the offense last Saturday, Dixie State still ranks in the top 50 nationally averaging 437.5 yards per game. Daniel Moffett (Kaysville, UT/Davis) is tied for first the most fumbles recoveries in the country with Jay Lata of S.D. Mines. Colton Peterson (Logan, UT/Skyview) sits 42nd in the country with an average of 156.0 all-purpose yards a game.

Peterson running for the end zone: Sophomore Colton Peterson (Logan, UT/Skyview) has recorded a rushing touchdown in both games this season. He is the first true tailback to achieve this since 2012 when A.J. Johnson rushed for scores in back-to-back weeks against Western Oregon and Simon Fraser. Former QB Griff Robles (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork) rushed for TDs in consecutive games on two separate occasions in 2013.

Third-Down success: DSU is 46th in the nation on third down conversions. The Storm has moved the sticks on 15-of-35 (42.8 percent) tries on third down. Leading the Division-II ranks is Alderson Broaddus at 69.2 percent.

Year number five: Scott Brumfield enters his fifth year as head coach of the Red Storm. Brumfield has a 10-35 collegiate coaching record. His previous head coaching stint was at his alma mater, Spanish Fork High School. He led the Red Storm to a fourth place finish in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference last season.
