BRISBANE, Calif. – The No. 15 Dixie State University softball team cruised to a pair of victories over Academy of Art University 20-8 in six innings and 11-5 in the nightcap. The wins extended the DSU winning streak to 19 games today at Mission Blue Field.

DSU (42-8/25-5 PWC) scored 31 runs on 32 hits in the doubleheader wins over the Urban Knights (16-32/13-17 PWC).

In the opener, DSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) home run to left center field. But ARTU responded with eight straight runs that chased Storm starter Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) from the game in the third inning.

With the Urban Knights leading 8-2, the NCAA's No.1 offense went to work and scored 18 unanswered runs to put away ARTU by way of the mercy-rule in six innings.

Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) hit a solo home run in the fourth to get things started. Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) extended her hitting streak to 25 games with her two RBI double. Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) followed with a two RBI double of her own and she would later score on a Sherwin RBI single.

In the fifth inning, DSU added the go ahead went Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) scored on a passed ball that gave the Storm a 9-8 lead.

The sixth inning saw DSU score 11 runs, of which six came via Reiter's bat. She hit a grand slam her first at bat of the inning and followed with a two RBI double her second. Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) added an RBI single, Hine another two RBI double, and Sherwin added another RBI single to left field.

Beardshear who pitched three and two thirds innings in relief, allowed two earned runs on four hits to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Reiter paced the offense with four hits and six RBI. Hine and Sherwin each had three hits and four RBI and Chavez and Hartman added pair of hits each.

In the nightcap, DSU left off just as they had in the first game of the day. Chavez extended her streak to 26 games with a leadoff single to the shortstop. After a walk to Sherwin, Mallory Paulson (Fruita, CO/Fruita Monument) hit a three run homer to left field to the Storm the early lead. A pair walks and a two RBI double from Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) pushed the DSU lead to 5-0.

The Urban Knights bounced right back in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on a pair of Red Storm errors.

In the second inning, Hine hit a home run to left field and Paulson hit her second home run of the game, this time to center field to extend the DSU lead to 8-2.

ARTU added three more runs off Red Storm starter Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 8-5.

Autumn Woodfall (Kaysville, UT/Davis High School) had a pinch hit single in the fifth and followed with a two RBI single to left center in the sixth to extend the DSU lead to 10-5. The final run of the day scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

Despite one of her more ineffective performances, Duncan improved to 14-1 by allowing five runs, two earned on seven hits while striking two Urban Knights.

With her pair of home runs, Paulson had three hits and five RBI to lead the Red Storm to victory. Sherwin added three more hits and four others added two hits each.

DSU closes out its regular season tomorrow with a pair of games at Dominican (CA) University at 1 p.m. tomorrow. A pair of wins will secure at least a share of the Pacific West Conference title with California Baptist.
