ST. GEORGE, Utah -- A sweep was just what the Dixie State softball set out to do prior to the series with Chaminade University and boy did they ever accomplish their goal. The Red Storm extended its winning streak to eight games with a 8-0 win in six innings in the opener and a 16-0 win in five innings in the nightcap today at Karl Brooks Field.

The Red Storm (31-8/19-5 PWC) pitchers performed just as well as the nationally ranked offense. The DSU pitching staff allowed just one run during the four-game series and extended its scoreless run streak to 18-innings. The offense performed well again today as they pounded out 28 hits and 24 runs against Chaminade (7-23/6-20 PWC) pitchers. They scored 49 runs and had 53 hits during the four-games series.

DSU turned to Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) in the opener, she allowed four hits while striking out seven batters to pick up her 15th win of the season and lower her ERA to 1.77.

The offense was a little sluggish having to a face Kaitlyn Watanabe, who primarily throws a change-up. DSU struck first when Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) reached base on a fielder's choice and later scored on a Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) double to right center field.

After an empty second frame, DSU added three more runs in the third innings when a pair of singles from Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) and Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) set up a Sherwin sacrifice bunt. After recording the second out of the innings, Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) pushed home two runs with a 2RBI double to left center field. Gelter would score on an RBI single by Bailee Freeland (Ogden, UT/Bonneville High School) one batter later and give DSU a 4-0 lead.

DSU added two more runs in the fourth and solo runs in the fifth and the sixth innings. Pinch hitter Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) ended the game after Kristie Johnson (Temecula, CA/Chaparral High School) singled to center and Beardshear lasered a ball into the left center field gap to push home the mercy-rule run.

Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) pitched the finale, going four innings allowing five hits while striking out two batters. She earned her eighth win of the season and lowered her ERA to 1.47. Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) pitched the final frame striking out two battters and allowing one hit.

DSU plated two runs in the first inning on a RBI sacrifice bunt from Sherwin and a Gelter RBI single to second base. But the big inning was the second inning when the Red Storm scored 10 runs on six hits and capitalized on four Silversword errors. In the inning Budge had 2 RBI on fielder's choice ground outs, Sherwin added her second and third RBI with a single to left field, pinch hitter Snow depoisted a 2 RBI double off the left field fence, Gelter added an RBI single to left, Freeland added an RBI with a single up the middle and Sydney Cluff (Meridian, ID/Rocky Mountain) added a pinch-hit RBI single to centerfield. The Red Storm led 12-0 after two complete innings.

DSU added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning after Mallory Paulson (Fruita, CO/Fruita Monument) doubled to right center and pinch-hitter Rochelle Jenkins (Mira Loma, CA/Roosevelt High School) hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.

In the fourth inning, Johnson doubled to left center, Reiter singled to right and Paulson added her second double to right center, this time scoring two to give DSU the 16-0 lead.

The sweep give DSU its second consecutive four-game sweep as they move into a tie in the Pacific West standing with California Baptist at 19-5.

The Red Storm hit the road for four non-conference games, a doubleheader at Fort Lewis on Tuesday and a doubleheader at Colorado Mesa on Wednesday before returning back home on April 14 & 15 against BYU-Hawaii.
