Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST GEORGE, UT -- Two nationally ranked programs, No. 22 Dixie State and No. 3 California Baptist, split a doubleheader on Saturday with the Lancers winning 4-2 in the opener and the Red Storm prevailing in the nightcap 6-5.

The Lancers (19-6/10-4 PWC) used a three run sixth inning in the first game and rode the back of ace Belinda Renne who allowed just one hit to the Red Storm (14-5/5-3 PWC) to seal the deal in the opener. DSU added two runs in the bottom half on a Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) RBI double and a Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) RBI single.

In the second game, DSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead on when Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) scored on a wild pitch and Sherwin plated Hine on a suicide sqeeze that turned into a base hit for Sherwin. Kristie Johnson (Temecula, CA/Chaparral High School) followed with an RBI single to centerfield.

In the second inning, Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) doubled off the right field wall, scoring #Brooke Budge from first base to give DSU a 4-0 lead.

DSU starter Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) was the victim of two Red Storm errors in the third inning and a passed ball that allowed the inning to be extended and the Lancers to even the game at four.

California Baptist took the lead in the top of the fourth inning 5-4 on a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Red Storm added the tying run in the bottom of the fourth, after Chavez doubled to right center and she scored on a Gelter single to centerfield.

In the fifth inning, DSU led off with a single from Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) and Chavez followed with her third hit of the game with a double down the left field line moving Hartman to third. Hine plated the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) relieved Snow and pitched the final four and one third innings to pick up her first win of the season and Dixie State.

Beardshear and Hartman each added two hits for the Red Storm.

The two teams will tangle again tomorrow at Karl Brooks field. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
