Duncan and Snow Throw No-Hitter, Red Storm Unleash 25 runs in Sweep of Chaminade

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Michelle Duncan (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert High School) and Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) combined for a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader sweep of Chaminade University on Monday at Karl Brooks Field. The Red Storm won both games by the run-rule, 14-1 in the opener and 11-0 in the nightcap.

Duncan who was making on only her second appearnace since Feb. 25, pitched four innings of no-hit ball. Snow followed with a perfect fifth inning frame to secure the 11-0 win and the no-hitter. Duncan walked just one batter, while striking out two to improve to 7-1 on the season and lowering her ERA to 1.80.

The pair received all the runs they needed from the red hot Dixie State (29-8/17-5 PWC), who pounded out 10 hits on 11 runs in the second game. DSU scored five runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. Courtney Sherwin (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) had three RBI to go along with her two hits, including her fifth home run of the season in the second inning.

Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) and Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) each added two hits to help lead the Red Storm to their sixth straight victory.

In the opener, Aryn Feickert (Lancaster, CA/Highland ) picked up her 14th win of the season, allowing just two hits while striking out six Chaminade (7-21/6-18 PWC) hitters in four innings of work. Brooklyn Beardshear (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro) pitched the final inning of the game, striking out one and allowing two hits.

The Red Storm offense pounded out 15 hits in the opener and scored 14 runs to cruise to the victory. DSU scored four runs in the first, seven in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth inning.

Brooke Budge (Springville, UT/Springville High School) led the team with three hits and Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School), Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School), Autumn Woodfall (Kaysville, UT/Davis High School), and Sherwin each added two hits.

Chavez, Reiter, Beardshear and Woodfall each hit home runs for Dixie State in the opener and Sherwin added hers in the second game.

DSU and the Silverswords will complete the four game series with a pair of games tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Karl Brooks Field. The Red Storm look to try and keep pace with PacWest leader California Baptist.
