Red Storm and NDNU Split PWC Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BELMONT, Calif. – The Dixie State University softball team split a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with Notre Dame de Namur University losing 3-0 and winning 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Notre Dame High School.

The Red Storm (18-7/7-5 PWC) was held scoreless for only the second time this season with the opening game defeat.

NDNU (12-14/6-7 PWC) starter Jenna Bassler held the potent DSU offense to just three hits in the opener, while striking out five batters. The Argo offense scored all three runs on three hits in the second inning to give Bassler the cushion she needed.

In the second game, Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) pitched her second great game in a row, walking just one, striking out five and allowing two runs in seven innings of work. She improves to 5-1 on the season.

The Red Storm scored a run in the third inning on a solo home run by Nicole Chavez (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala High School) that gave DSU a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Argos scored the equalizer on a single by Montecino to tie the game at 1-1.

In the Red Storm 5th inning, two singles and two walks gave DSU a 2-1 lead. Pinch hitter Autumn Woodfall (Kaysville, UT/Davis High School) singled scoring two runners and Josey Hartman (Mapleton, UT/Maple Mountain) followed with her own single to give DSU a 5-1 lead.

NDNU added a run in the sixth on an infield groundout.

Sheila Gelter (St. George, UT/Dixie High School) lead DSU with three hits and Hartman added two.

The Red Storm will have the day off tomorrow before starting a four game series with Holy Names University on Friday at 1 p.m.
